Find The Perfect Radio:

Gasoline Modeling FAQ

I did not find the answer to my question here. How do I get further assistance?

FM or PCM?

In general, we recommend setting up gasoline models with an FM radio system. This allows the user to "see" all glitching occurring during ground testing, and to "ferret it out" and resolve it, and not risk that the PCM system is "masking" a potential problem. See setup guidelines.

Once any problems have been worked out, then we strongly recommend the use of a PCM system and proper fail-safe settings to minimize the risk of injury in the event of radio interference. By setting the gasoline model's electronic kill switch to "OFF", the model is less likely to strike anyone or anything at larger rates of speed. additionally, if the problem was ignition related, which it often is, the ignition noise is now eliminated and the model may very well be controllable and can be landed safely dead stick.

Guidelines for setting up gasoline engine models.

All ignition equipment, including an electronic kill switch, must be mounted at least 12", and preferably 14", away from all radio equipment, including throttle servos, etc. Ignition kill switch should always be on opposite side of fuselage from radio kill switch. All pushrods going to anything related to the engine must be non-conductive (just nonmetal clevises is not sufficient).
