I want to create a mix which is only active if my throttle is above a certain point. For example, I only want my smoke to come on if my throttle is above 1/2 to avoid killing the engine. How can I do this?

There are a variety of ways to do this, all of which are a bit unusual, but all functional. For example, you could assign AUX2 to no master control at all, then create a mix only in your primary condition which is turned on by the desired switch, but in your second condition — which is triggered by the throttle stick movement — that mix does not exist. Then the smoke would not activate/would turn off if throttle moves into the second condition.

Let's look at the easiest to understand and most versatile approach to tackling this problem.

Using a mix with the throttle stick as the trigger rather than a switch: Select a blank pmix (PMX), and set up your mix as desired. From the switch screen, go to stick screen, and select J3 — the throttle stick. Then place the throttle stick in the desired position and press the set key. Now, if you want the mix active ABOVE this stick position, it's set; *if you want it BELOW this stick position, press +/- to reverse its active direction.

Let's look at our example of setting up the smoke to always be off when switch G is off, and to be on when switch G is on AND throttle is above a set point.

Set up a pmix (PMX) to move smoke servo channel (aux2) -100% unless throttle is above a given point. This returns the smoke servo to neutral rather than "full on".

For this mix to operate properly, it must be "ON" or active only when the throttle is at/below your desired 'smoke off' point. This is moving the smoke servo back toward the 'off' position even though its master switch has turned it on.

Duplicate this mix exactly which will now take the servo from neutral to 'full off'.

Now assign the function (FNC) of Aux2 to switch G so that when that switch is off, smoke does not come on, even with throttle.Go to Function (FNC) MenuP B K

*Reverse the direction of the control if needed to make the mix activate correctly. In this case, we want this mix active only when throttle is BELOW the set trigger point, so we need "ACT" at the bottom of the screen and "INH" at the top.

Want to try a different approach? Let's try an approach which uses a throttle to auxiliary 2 mix but utilizing a large offset to force the mix to reach our desired range instead. This approach is less appealing, as the trigger point is more difficult to regulate, but utilizes only one mix, which may be more feasible depending on the complexity of your model.

Set up a pmix (PMX) from throttle to smoke which will de-activate the smoke servo if the throttle is below about 1/4 throttle. (This is actually a progressive linear mix but as the electronic switch is only on/off, this is acceptable.)Open Pmix (PMX) 1 and Make it ActiveO B I F A F
